Outage Management System for Hydro One Networks (ORMS)
Hydro One Networks (Hydro One) is a transmission and largely
rural distribution utility in Ontario, Canada. Over 1.2
million customers are supplied by their distribution network. To
improve the effectiveness of their Distribution Operations Management
Centre, Call Centre and field operations, Hydro One implemented an OMS
named "Outage Response Management System" (ORMS) in February 2003.
ORMS automates trouble call entry, analysis and voice
dispatch. It is built with CGI/M3i's outage management and
dispatch software with interfaces to a Customer Information System
(CIS), Interactive Voice Response system (IVR), Autodialer, and
web-based reporting system. The electrical model for the system
was constructed by geo-referencing the facilities (switches and
transformers) in a topology model to a set of operating maps.
The Role of ExtenSys
ExtenSys was invited to participate in the OMS project with
Hydro One Networks. ExtenSys assisted Hydro One in the selection,
acquisition and implementation of ORMS. Members of ExtenSys also
participated by:
- Providing subject matter expertise on outage management
systems during the selection and implementation process
- Performing functional and structural testing of the system
- Conducting risk mitigation analyses
- Assisting in project coordination and planning
- Creating a high level design of the future interface to
Hydro One's Enterprise GIS (ArcGIS by ESRI)
